ターキーのひき肉加工製品によるサルモネラ菌感染が全米に広まっている件で、食肉加工の大手カーギル社がターキーのひき肉3600万パウンドの自主リコールを開始した。サルモネラによる食中毒は3月に始まりこれまでに全米の26の州で76人が食中毒症状を起こしており、サクラメントで一人が死亡している。カーギル社はこの件で昨日、同社のアーカンサス州スプリングデールで今年2月20日から8月2日の間に生産されたターキーのひき肉加工製品合計3600万パウンドをサルモネラ菌汚染の可能性があるとして自主リコールを決め発表した。またサルモネラ菌の感染ルートが確認できるまで新たな生産は止められていることも明らかにした。
