TAKASHI HIDAI
Takashi Hidai began playing the flute in 1963, received the flute training from his father Makoto Hidai,
the former director of the Japan Flute Club. He has performed with several chamber orchestra
around Tokyo, including Baroque Ensemble, Heinrich Shutz Chamber Orchestra, and Tokyo Mozart
Chamber Orchestra as the principal flutist, and taught many young flutists for about 15 years in Tokyo.
Mr. Hidai studied with Lloyd Gowan, piccolo player of the San Francisco Symphony during his temporary
staying in the U.S. from 1987 to 1987. After moving to the U.S. permanently in 1989, he has studied
with Julius Baker, internationally renowned flutist and teacher. He has performed with several
orchestras around the Bay Area, while working as an R&D scientist at JDS Uniphase corporation and
teaching young flutists. Mr. Hidai performed as a member of the Julius Baker Flute Ensemble at the
National Flute Association Convention in 1991&2004. He has won several prizes of the Best Performer
YAMAHA wards including multiple first places at Julius Baker’s Master Class. He has given his annual
recitals in Palo Alto since 1993 and in Tokyo since 2005.
HIROKO MIZUNO
Hiroko Mizuno holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Japan’s, prestigious Toho Gakuen
Conservatory. She has participated the Flute Festival with James Galway and the Andreas Blau’s
Flute Master Class as the primary accompanist. She has also performed with violinist Yoshio Unno,
flutist Mika Enjo, and saxophonist Kenichiro Muto, as well as the NHK Symphony Orchestra Woodwinds
Ensemble and the Tokyo Harmonia Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Mizuno has recorded several commercial
media and CDs and has taught at the Conservatoire Shobi, the Children’s music school of Toho Gakuen.
She has also performed on NHK-FM and NHK satellite broadcasting. In addition to performing solo and
at chamber recitals, Ms. Mizuno also plays the harpsichord and performs Baroque music.
Recently, Ms. Mizuno has performed with several international performers such as harpist Chiffon Fu and
pianist Noriko Mima as well as the Bay Area musicians including violinist David Allcott, clarinetist Doug
Zuehlke, and flutist Teresa Orozco-Petersen. Ms. Mizuno has been a resident of California since 1998.
